The
Girl in the Picture
The Girl in the Picture is photographer and watercolorist Liza
Stelle, without whom there would be no Goodie. Through Liza, the
Goodie Girls were introduced to a great gypsy camp of beauties such
as Vali Myers, Ira Cohen, Kasoundra Kasoundra, Penny Arcade, Herbert
Huncke, Jack Smith, Dame Margo Howard-Howard, the Living Theatre,
Buffie Johnson, and so many more. Liza was born in New York City,
daughter of jazz musician Eddie Condon and respected copywriter
Phyllis Condon. She was wise and mad and could be counted on never
to do the expected and always to take the scenic route. She died
prematurely of cancer in January 1999. She believed in giving credit
where it was due and paying her debts. “No tickie, no shirtie,”
she liked to say.
